In this modern world, many people have weak immunity. Maybe due to the excess ultraviolet rays or whatever. People get all worried and tensed up if a person sneezes or coughs. I should know that cause i think that my family is like that too. Fortunately, cures and treatments for many illnesses have been found, even for some major illnesses! Cant name any though, no plan to get into the medical industry.
Is cancer hereditary or something? Both my paternal grandparents suffered from cancer, one in the liver and the other in the stomach [which spread to many other organs] I have never met my paternal grandfather before, my mum neither. Now, i heard of a distant relative [uncle most likely] that suffers from cancer in the liver. He is only 48years old and was retrenched recently. Life is tough on him and his sister [i think]. She has to take care of him, take care of their father and also work odd jobs. Their family income isnt all that stable. I also heard that his mother or someone gave him garlic juice to drink and his inner body burnt whole night! The pain was definitely unbearable. He even has to take two morphine pills a day. Imagine how much he is suffering? I have witness my grandmother suffer and succumb to cancer. It seemed like no matter how much we prayed or how much treatment she recieved help. I believe though, that its her time to go to God up above. God bless. I hope everyone out there can pray for this distant uncle of mine to hopefully recover through chemotherapy [doctor gave him 5months to live], a miracle maybe.
This is a composition/essay i wrote about my grandmother's illness for the VJC ip :
3) First experiences can be defining. Cite a first experience that you have had and explain its impact on you.Cancer, a top killer! Articles on cancer are frequent features in newspapers but never did I take the time to read them. I did not know the amount of pain that not only the one suffering from cancer goes through, but also the loved ones. I, unfortunately, did not have to read about it because my own grandma was diagnosed with cancer one fateful day.
When my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, I thought that all she needed was an operation or two and she would be all right but she was 77 and diabetic. Besides, the cancer was in its advanced stage.
Grandma showed great strength and willpower. She endured the pain, even rejecting the morphine and tried not to show how much she was suffering. 6th July was my parents’ wedding anniversary. Grandma was already very weak and we knew she may die anytime but she held on that day. She died on 7th July. She had held on till the 7th so as to celebrate the occasion of my parents’ wedding anniversary and she celebrated it with us for the last time.
During the wake, many people turned up and I realized that my grandma had in her lifetime made many friends, young and old. Many people broke down at her funeral and I myself could not control my tears. Everyone who knew her loved her dearly.
It has been four years since she left us, but we still remember how her faith in God remained strong throughout her illness. Now, whenever I am in a difficult situation, I don’t give up but try and try till I succeed. She taught me many lessons I could not learn from books. This experience had a great impact on me as now I realized how we must forever keep our faith in God strong. My grandma believed in God and was blessed with the strength to go through those dark days. From her, I have learnt to put my trust in God and to never allow my faith to waver at the sight of an obstacle or a failure. Instead, I learnt to pray to him with sincerity and most importantly, faith and love. I had also seen how united my family is. When my grandmother was first diagnosed with cancer to the last day of her life, everybody rallied round her and gave her support. We all worked together to give my grandmother the most we could. Who could have thought that one can learn many precious lessons from the experience of death of a loved one.
